Training climb up Hex Mountain
Scott Waller | 3/16/2008

What a great day in the mountains to do a little solo climbing. Yesterday I went out on a solo snowshoe/climbing trip up Hex Mountain. I got a little late start but ended up making amazing time and summited by 2pm! What a view and the weather couldn't have been any better. The clounds broke and I could see for miles. Hex Mountain overlooks Lake Cle Elum at about 5100 feet. The climb is via a pretty steep ridgeline which kept me out of any avalanche danger. There was nobody else up there except for a group of climbers taking a different route. It was good to chat with them for a few minutes as they were training for Denali as well. They will be up there a week before I fly onto the mountain. 7 miles and 2800 feet elevation gain in 4.5 hours. Not bad.
